Within Mobarakeh Steel Complex expansion plan, it was decided to add a direct reduction module for increasing the sponge iron production capacity by 800,000 tpy.
The project named "Module F Project" is carried out by IRITEC.
The total weight of equipment adds up to 8000 tons and to maximize the utilization of existing facilities, it is adjacent to existing modules.
More than 50% of the equipment are manufactured in Iran.

This project consists of design and installation of a new rolling mill stand (F7) and necessary modification on existing stands (F5 & F6) with the target of increasing the production capacity of the plant from 2,400,000 tpy up to 3,200,000 tpy.
The execution of the project took 28 months long and completed successfully in Nov. 1998, and now is under operation.
All activities were carried out concurrently with the continuous production of the plant.

In the light of M.S.C techno-economical study for development of the plant, it was decided to add a Ladle Furnace Plant inside the existing Steel Making Plant.
The main aim of adding this plant:

  • Increasing the capacity of steel making up to 600,000 tpy of slag free and producing clean steel.

  • Decreasing tap-to-tap time and saving energy.

  • Substitution of chemical energy vs electrical energy by utilizing oxy-natural gas graphite lance.

The main added equipment consist of 4 ladle furnaces, changing the existing 8 arc-furnaces tapping mechanism to E.B.T, Oxygen-Natural Gas lancing, and Argon blowing.
All activities were carried out concurrently with the continuous production of the plant.
The plant was completed successfully in May 1999 and now is under operation.

This plant receives hot slabs with a temperature of about 1000 °c from the continuous casting machines. For cooling the hot slabs, water & air cooling systems are used.
In water cooling system the slabs are submerged into two slab cooling tanks, and cooled up to 80 °c and in air cooling system , slabs are stored in air cooling open area and naturally cooled up to the ambient temperature.
The total weight of installed equipment adds up 10,000 tons , and the plant consists of seven E.O.T. cranes of 40 tons capacity each, three cooling towers and a deducting system.
The three-covered bay plant stretches as much as 30,000 m2.
The plant commissioned successfully in 1992 and now is under operation.

Based on feasibility study for expansion of Mobarakeh Steel Complex, two 310 t/h slab reheating furnaces were installed and commissioned in the hot strip rolling mill of Mobarakeh steel complex.
By installation of these two furnaces, four furnaces are now available .
The first furnace was installed and commissioned in Nov. 1999 and by connection of the first furnace to the production line, the capacity of the hot strip mill increased from 2,400,000 tpy to 3,200,000 tpy.
The second furnace was installed and commissioned in March 2000.
The installation of the furnaces was being carried out without any interruption of the on-going production line.
These are further the modification of the hot strip rolling mill stand R3 and the coilers to achieve the target production of 4,200,000 tpy.
